The plot could not be more rote, but the film's so saturated, scene by scene, line by line, with deadpan ridiculousness that you have to wonder if it's only coincidence that Antonsen so resembles John C. Reilly and his archrival Stefan (Kare Conradi) looks and acts a lot like Semi-Pro-vintage Will Ferrell. Is King Curling a deliberate premake intended to lure an American adaptation that could only pale in comparison? Paulsen’s teammates are a rag tag bunch of misfits; Marcus (Jon Oigarden) is a sex addict and provides one of the least effective, but funniest, fight scenes in the history of cinema and Espen (Jan Saelid) has not slept in months and takes his anger out on a delivery man whose handcart squeaks. Truls’s enemy comes in the form of Stefan Ravandal (Kare Conradi), a character reminiscent of Jesus in The Big Lebowski; full of arrogance and swaggering hips. (......) In all, Curling King is the underdog comedy story we have all seen before, but we have not seen it like this.
